DANVILLE – The Rev. B. Lamont Monford used his speech at Danville’s Martin Luther King Jr. Celebration service as a call to action for the community.
The pastor of the Philippian Missionary Baptist Church in Lima, Ohio, used humor, movie trivia and a Bible story to get the audience into his message.
Monford joked about being given a time frame for his speech and about people always wanting to know where Lima is.
“I tell them, it’s L-I-M-A, lost in middle America,” he said of the town on Interstate 75 north of Dayton.
Monford’s mother was a drug user and a prostitute who was murdered when he was 14. He has used his experiences to write “Valleys to Victories” and earned master’s and doctoral degrees in ministry and founded Mary Alice’s House, a sober living environment, named for his mother.
