The two sides in the fight over a downtown night spot were in front of a judge Friday to outline their case.
City prosecutors are trying to strip Club Lure, at 1204 Washington, of its liquor license, citing violence, indecent behavior, and documentation problems such as failure to conduct criminal background checks on employees and update the employment list with the city.
Several police officers who have patrolled the downtown entertainment district told Judge Margaret Walsh about breaking up fights outside the club, writing tickets for littering and public drunkenness, and dealing with traffic issues on the streets outside the club. Earl Westfall, who lives with his girlfriend in the lofts above the club, told Judge Walsh about the club’s failure to leave its fire exit locked from the outside. He would often, he said, feel threatened by Lure patrons who lingered in the lobby that was supposed to be for residents only.

Latasha Jewell McFarland, 27, pleaded guilty Wednesday to a federal prostitution-related charge, admitting she persuaded a 13-year-old runaway to go into prostitution.
McFarland, of St. Louis County, told the girl last summer that she could earn $100 for each sex act, Assistant U.S. Attorney Noelle Collins said in court.
McFarland posted pictures of the teen online, bought condoms, arranged the meetings and drove the teen to hotels along Interstate 270, Collins said, taking half the proceeds.
McFarland also encouraged the girl to participate in parties where men would pay to have sex with multiple women, Collins said.
McFarland, who broke down in tears during and after the brief court hearing, pleaded guilty of interstate commerce to promote prostitution, and faces roughly five years in prison when sentenced Dec. 1.
Asked after the hearing whether the teen’s customers could face charges, Collins said that, in general, the FBI tries to identify and pursue customers who had sex with minors.

Of course no real r&b album is complete without songs about women, or more precisely, being in love and lust with women, and I Still Believe has plenty to proffer on that front as well. Spotlight lays out a smooth, strip club friendly beat for Lyfe’s boot knocking proclivities, complete with a hilarious monologue (that is without a doubt the first Kevorkian reference in r&b history). It’s nothing groundbreaking, but it doesn’t need to be, it just needs to get the ladies winding their hips on the dance floor. Mission accomplished. Unfortunately under the criteria I’ve laid out repeatedly in these reviews I have to deduct points for I Still Believe’s lack of a true babymaker, Spotlight’s really as close as we get, but that doesn’t mean the album lacks in the desire department. Whatever She Wants is a hypnotic ballad about falling head over heels in love, and of course the simply titled Love is Lyfe’s musical recipe for keeping that special lady in your life. So if you’re looking to lock the bedroom door and get down I Still Believe won’t be your first choice, but for the other 99% of your relationship needs, Lyfe’s got you covered.

St. Louis police did not respond to my request asking to get a department official on record calling the crooks pictured here “Ding Dongs.” So, I’ll have to do it myself.
Though I gotta say: I’m a little disappointed that they stand accused of robbery and not soliciting prostitution at the Hostess store — in which case they’d be Ho Hos!

According to police, the male suspect went to the register as if to purchase a soda. When the clerk opened the register, his female accomplice forced the clerk to the ground as he looted the cash drawer.

Anyone who has ever driven through Washington Park knows that the place looks like it was recently hit by a hurricane. Save for the strip clubs, the tiny village next East St. Louis is full of buildings that are burned down, boarded up and falling over.

According to the Belleville News-Democrat, both Robinsons were indicted earlier this week by a grand jury on one count of conspiracy to commit mail fraud and three counts of mail fraud.

ALTON — A 22-year-old woman and 83-year-old man face prostitution-related charges after a Ridge Street resident called police about a man picking up a suspected prostitute in the neighborhood.

The woman, Danyelle A. Walker, who gave police an address in Granite City but has lived in Alton, was charged Thursday with felony prostitution. The charge is enhanced because Walker was convicted of a second subsequent charge of prostitution last Nov. 17.

Police identified the man they charged with patronizing a prostitute, a misdemeanor, as William J. Kuehnel, of the 3400 block of Greenwood Lane in Godfrey. Police had his Chrysler Sebring towed from the lot after his arrest.
Hayes said residents of the 400 and 500 blocks of Ridge Street have complained about increased prostitution activity in their neighborhoods at recent Weed and Seed meetings.

The chief promised to publicize both accused prostitutes and their customers, including providing mug shots to the media from their arrests, in an attempt to deter prostitution activity in the city.
