When asked about being similar to Jones on Sirius XM radio, Jenkins replied: “I mean, no, because I never shot up a strip club or nothing like that.”

The St. Louis Rams’ 2012 NFL Draft grades have been mixed, for the most part, but Don Banks of SI.com, at least, is giving them some extra credit for taking a risk with one of their three Round 2 picks: Janoris Jackson’s character problems are well documented, but if he’s really a Top 10 kind of talent—and with the Rams as bankrupt in the secondary as they are, outside of Cortland Finnegan—it’s a chance for Les Snead and the new Rams braintrust to make a big mark on the team immediately.
In Jenkins’s own words, he “never shot up a strip club,” but the comparisons to Pacman Jones and Jeff Fisher’s embattled tenure in Tennessee are inevitable. In the end I like Banks’s suggestion that the Rams have, at least at the moment, managed to get both quantity and quality in the 2012 NFL Draft, thanks to their judicious trading and, well, their ineptitude in 2011.

For the Rams, the centerpiece selection of the night came when they rolled the dice and took Jenkins with the middle of their three second-rounders. The story of the ex-Florida Gator cornerback is well-known at this point: arrested three times at Florida, he left Gainesville with a string of incidents trailing him, including a bar fight and two marijuana possession charges. Jenkins has four children by three different women, with the kids all age 3 and under. It’s a challenging personal history for the Rams to deal with, to say the least.
But that’s where Fisher’s experience might well prove valuable. He was, of course, the head coach in Tennessee when the Titans drafted talented but troubled West Virginia cornerback Adam “Pacman” Jones in 2005’s first round. The Jones era didn’t wind up being worth the trouble in Tennessee, but the Rams’ second-round investment in Jenkins means the stakes won’t be as high for a Fisher-led team this time.
Not that Jenkins himself is buying the Pacman comparison. Asked about it during his first interview with the Rams media on Friday, Jenkins scoffed: “I mean, no, because I never shot up a strip club or nothing like that.”

The St. Louis Rams decided they were going to be the team to take a risk and draft Janoris Jenkins with their 39th pick.
Jenkins, who character-issued his way into the second round, was widely considered a top-15 talent with skills similar to Morris Claiborne, who went sixth overall to the Dallas Cowboys. But his two marijuana-related arrests dropped him all the way to the second round, and many believe he still went a little too high as a high-second round selection.
Some even threw around Adam “Pac-Man” Jones comparisons with Jenkins, but he doesn’t see it it that way.

Jenkins started his first three seasons at Florida and was a Third-Team All-American in 2010. After his second marijuana arrest within a three-month span, he was dismissed from UF and ultimately continued his career at North Alabama.

Schardan is off probation and focusing on a career as a comic, something he began before heading to Michigan. He also is in the third year of a relationship with Earlene Gotto. He met Gotto, who was divorced, at a Belleville bar a few months after leaving prison. Schardan made her laugh—something she said she sorely needed. A couple of weeks later, he told her he was a felon.
“Did you murder somebody?” Gotto, 43, asked. He told her no, then explained his past. Gotto didn’t flinch.
“Let’s see where it goes,” she remembers thinking. Now, she describes him as ‘so much more than a bank robber.”
Still, she admits, early on in their relationship, every time the TV news mentioned a bank robbery, she would look up to see if the police sketch or photo from surveillance video looked like Schardan.
Schardan has passed through several jobs—including a stint as a strip club security guard—on his way to comedy. Today, he and Gotto live together, along with his son, Kody, 17, and her son, Jory Frick, 26, in Fairview Heights.

Bridgeton keeps moratorium on licenses for some businesses
BRIDGETON • Bridgeton has extended its moratorium on licensing or permitting new adult businesses, title and payday loan establishments, electronic game rooms, tobacco shops, currency exchanges and similar possibly troublesome operations for another six months, while new licensing procedures are developed.
The City Council unanimously approved the extension Wednesday night. There were no comments from the public.
No new business applicants in these fields have come forward in recent months, and the few existing establishments have not been troublesome. But the city needs revised, permanent laws to deal with such businesses efficiently, officials say.
