WASHINGTON—Leon Pullen, 32, of Foley, Missouri, a former police officer employed by the Uplands Park Police Department in suburban St. Louis, was sentenced to 25 years in prison on civil rights violations stemming from several incidents where he sexually assaulted and stole money from women, the Justice Department announced. According to court documents, Pullen was a police officer employed by the Uplands Park Police Department. On July 15, 2009, Officer Pullen responded to an advertisement placed on the internet.
The woman posted her picture and contact information as a prostitute. Pullen contacted her via cell phone, identified himself as “Jimmy,” and, without identifying himself as a police officer, arranged to meet her at a specific location in Uplands Park. He agreed to pay $400 for sexual acts, and also asked her to bring a friend. When the woman arrived, a police vehicle pulled behind her car.

So first, he raided his family trust, of which he was a trustee. Then he started skimming off the accounts of the clients he’d picked up as a broker for Woodbury Financial, for whom he’d begun working in October 2008 (this was separate and distinct from his employment at Spetner, records show).
“He was robbing Moishe to pay Saul,” says Watkins.
Yet Watkins acknowledges that Gould did much more than that: He enriched himself too, using the stolen money, for example, to remodel his kitchen and pay the mortgage on his Amherst Avenue home, which sits in the Orthodox neighborhood of west University City.
Gould also dropped “tens of thousands” in east-side strip clubs, Watkins confirms, but hastens to clarify: Gould was majority owner of at least one online sports ticket broker called The Sports Nook.

If you make the trek, don’t expect your traditional Wash. U. bumpin’ and grindin’ dance floor culture. Club-goers at Wild Country are all about line dancing—and they take it quite seriously. Traditionally, there are set dances that experienced line dancers are familiar with, and throughout the night, one person dictates which dance to pair with each song. For our large group of newcomers, it was a challenge to keep up! However, by the end of the night, there were a few Wash. U. students that were fitting right in.
Even though their dancing techniques may be a bit unusual—at least for college students—these line dancers have developed their own rituals and quirky night activities that make the Wild Country experience exciting. Take, for example, the underage drinking policy—anyone found drinking illegally is not only escorted off of the premises, but also chanted at (by the entire club) those familiar lyrics “na na na na, na na na na, hey, hey, hey goodbye” followed by some colorful cursing. It’s also hard to miss the stripper pole in the dead center of the dance floor, welcoming men and women alike with open arms to show their freaky side.

St. Louis Rams head coach Steve Spagnuolo made the trip to Mobile, AL this week for the Senior Bowl, joining him were offensive line coach Steve Loney, defensive line coach Brendan Daly and linebackers coach Paul Ferrraro. Those coaches joined the Rams scouting department and front office guys, including GM Billy Devaney. What exactly were they doing with their time this week?
Though focused on prospects, the Senior Bowl is also a chance for NFL coaches and suits to have something of an informal conference, networking. (I bet area strippers make half their annual incomes this week). For teams hiring coaches, it’s often kind of a vetting process. That doesn’t mean they aren’t watching players with an eye toward the 2011 NFL Draft. For instance, it’s telling that the Rams have had multiple conversations with South Florida DT Terrell McClain between this week and last with defensive line coach Brendan Daly in attendance.

Judge throws out Ill. village’s bankruptcy case
By JIM SUHR
EAST ST. LOUIS, Ill.
A federal bankruptcy judge has thrown out a crumbling southwestern Illinois village’s pursuit of court protection from creditors, ruling that the municipality best known for its strip clubs does not have authority under state law for such relief.
U.S. Bankruptcy Judge Pamela Peppers’ ruling Dec. 23 leaves 5,300-resident Washington Park scrambling to sort out how it can cover its mounting debt, which the village listed as more than $1 million when it filed for Chapter 9 protection in July 2009. It was the St. Clair County community’s second bankruptcy filing in five years.
At that time, Washington Park listed assets of less than $50,000 and said its two largest creditors were the Illinois Department of Employment Security, which was owed $448,793.29, and John “Chico” Matt, the village’s former public safety chief, who was owed $300,000.

… We said that was crazy! We couldn’t put the Rep’s money into anything like that. Broadway is like betting on horses.
“But the idea resonated as we saw how favorably our audience responded (to the play). We made a pitch to our board members and some of our other strong supporters. According to Leonard, this is a pretty novel approach.”
It means a big St. Louis contingent on hand for the opening at the Booth — one of Broadway’s most beautiful houses, said Steven Woolf, artistic director of the Rep.
The Booth production will be close to what St. Louis audiences saw last fall. Once again, Turner will play Sister Jamison Connolly, a nun who counsels addicts, and Evan Jonigkeit will make his Broadway debut as Cody Randall, a teen prostitute she tries to help.

Tyrone and Anthony Thompson, the sons of former state Rep. Betty Thompson, had been mentoring students at Mel Carnahan High School of the Future through the Gentlemen’s Club for several years. Tyrone Thompson also had been developing a mentorship program through his alma mater, University City High School, and had served as president of the St. Louis Martin Luther King Non-Violence Youth Support Group.
After his death in what police said was a robbery attempt by two 18-year-olds, his family got together and talked about how they could address the issue of teen violence, said Anthony Thompson, CEO of Kwame Building Group.
…
“They could have been in the Gentleman’s Club too, but they just didn’t have any guidance,” he said. Butler, who now is a freshman psychology major at St. Louis University, said he wanted to get involved with the program at the institute.
