ST. LOUIS (AP) — A suburban St. Louis man has been sentenced to nearly four years in prison for promoting the prostitution of a 16-year-old girl.
The sentence was handed down Wednesday in U.S. District Court for 27-year-old Melvin Moore of St. Peters. He pleaded guilty in December to one count of use of an interstate facility to promote prostitution.
Court documents show that in September, a runaway girl met Moore, who asked her to work for him as a prostitute. The U.S. Attorney’s office says Moore promised to make her the “Queen Bee” among his prostitutes.
Moore advertised the girl’s services on the Internet. Authorities say she went on more than 10 prostitution calls and made about $2,000 that was turned over to Moore.

A St. Louis priest on Wednesday pleaded guilty in federal court in St. Louis to a child pornography charge and admitted both possessing child porn and agreeing to pay for a sex with a 16-year-old girl.
Under the plea deal, Father James Grady, 58, now faces six years, eight months in federal prison, and will have to register as a sex offender upon his release. But prosecutors dropped two charges: attempting to obtain a minor for a commercial sex act and using interstate commerce to attempt to entice or coerce someone under 18 to engage in prostitution or sexual activity. Grady could have faced a minimum of 10 years in prison on those charges.
Grady’s lawyer declined to comment after the hearing.
Grady, then-pastor of St. Raphael the Archangel Church in south St. Louis, was arrested July 29 during a sex sting run by the FBI and local police, after he agreed to pay for sex with a 16-year-old. Prosecutors and investigators said Grady was responding to an ad in the the “adult services” section of the Craigslist website.

DUI: A 38-year-old resident of the 400 block of East Main Street, East Alton, was arrested March 15 at West 20th and Leyden on a charge of driving under the influence.
DISORDERLY CONDUCT: A 20-year-old resident of the 2500 block of Grand Avenue, Granite City, was arrested March 16 in the 2100 block of Madison on a charge of disorderly conduct, resisting or obstructing a peace officer and aggravated assault.
SOLICITING: Three people were arrested March 17 on a charge of soliciting a prostitute in the Downtown Granite City area after a Nuisance Abatement Team undercover sting. The three arrested include a 72-year-old resident of the 2000 block of Sixth Street, Madison; a 46-year-old resident of the 2900 block of Dale Avenue, Granite City; and a 37-year-old resident of the 2100 block of Benton, Granite City.

The candidates also had to write two essays, “Why Post-High School Education is Important,” and, “What the Boys and Girls Club Means to Me.” Once in Champaign, the contestants made three-minute speeches, which resulted in the judges selecting finalists.
The panel of judges then interviewed the finalists individually.
Before heading to state competition, Clanton first had to beat out two members of the Alton club. In Alton, the finalists spoke to a panel of four judges, then underwent a five-minute interview with the group. Local judges were Alton Police Chief David Hayes, Alton High Principal Barb Gillian, AHS Assistant Principal Brian Johnson and banker Steve Thompson.

William Paton, aged 20, of Clarendon Way, St Paul’s Cray, denies murdering and robbing Nadim Gulamhuseinwala, 32, near Buckingham Palace last summer.
He says co-defendent Thomas Connor, of Curtismill Way, St Paul’s Cray, ordered him to steal Dr Gulamhuseinwala’s wallet and phone after Connor had struck his victim with a metal pole and stamped on his head.
Paton claims he did not see the assault take place because he was behind a tree.
But Andrew Edis, prosecuting, told the jury Paton had admitted to a psychologist this year that he has suffered flashbacks of the attack, which took place on July 25 in Green Park.
He also said the same psychologist had indicated Paton may be suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder.
Last week the jury heard how Paton and 20-year-old Connor had spent cash stolen from the victim on a prostitute in the hours after the attack.

CHESTERFIELD — Authorities say a woman has been charged with stripping for customers as young as 12 in her mobile home, which had a stripper pole in the living room.
Multiple media outlets reported Friday that 27-year-old Gwendolyn Lowery was arrested after deputies were given a flier about a party in her Chesterfield home.
Authorities say Lowery was dancing when deputies raided the home last Sunday. Investigators say they found about 20 people inside. Eight of them were juveniles, including a 12-year-old boy.
Deputies say they also found a price list for strip dances and alcohol. Lowery was charged with eight counts of contributing to the delinquency of a minor. Investigators didn’t know if she had a lawyer.

BUNNELL — A Palm Coast woman jailed on charges of possession of child pornography and linked to a prostitution and incest case against other family members may be free soon after reaching a tentative plea agreement with prosecutors.
Tina Marie Smith, 44, has been in jail for 15 months facing 37 counts of possession of child pornography charges. She is the wife of Alton E. Smith and stepmother to his daughter.

Alton Smith is jailed on 52 counts of possession of child pornography, three counts of incest, and charges of attempted escape and living off the earnings of prostitution. Alton Smith’s daughter is charged with three counts of incest, child neglect and prostitution.

The case started with a prostitution sting on Carlos Court in Palm Coast in December 2008. Prosecutors have said Alton Smith placed a Craigslist ad for an escort and set the prices for his daughter’s services.
