Alton man allegedly posed as priest to solicit sex

Authorities say an Alton man is accused of posing as a priest online and soliciting sex from someone he reportedly thought was a 13-year-old girl.
Madison County Sheriff’s Police Capt. Brad Wells said Thursday that 41-year-old Robert Shaw is charged with felony indecent solicitation of a child and felony grooming.
Felony grooming is a charge recently approved by the Illinois General Assembly. Wells said it pertains to an adult who initiates a conversation online with a child and pursues it to the point of solicitation.
Wells said Shaw made at least three solicitations for sex, and tried to arrange a meeting with the child, who was actually an undercover police officer.
Shaw was being held Thursday night in lieu of $60,000 bond. It was not immediately known if he had an attorney.

Two of the “Landrieu Four” made recent cameos in St. Louis

Half of the quartet of young men who were arrested this week on suspicion of tampering with a U.S. Senator’s telephone system were familiar faces to conservative activists in St. Louis.
The most notable of the four was James O’Keefe, who made national headlines last year after his surreptitious recordings revealed workers in the community group ACORN offering tax advice to a pair — O’Keefe and female partner — posing as prostitute and pimp.
O’Keefe is accused of organizing a scheme to get two accomplices — posing as repairman — access to the telephone system in the New Orleans office of Louisiana Democratic Sen. Mary Landrieu. While some have suggested O’Keefe intended to tap Landrieu’s phone, the motive remains unclear.

Just got a heads up from Adam Shriver over at St. Louis Activist Hub about a new video showing Tea Party “heroes” James O’Keefe and Joseph Basel disrupting a gay-rights rally in St. Louis last November.
Dozens of people showed up at the Cathedral Basilica on November 29 to protest the St. Louis archdiocese’s monetary gift of $10,000 to help defeat a same-sex marriage vote in Maine.
Also on hand that Sunday morning were O’Keefe and Basel. The day before — November 28 — O’Keefe appeared as the keynote speaker at a St. Louis Tea Party rally downtown.
O’Keefe, as you’ll recall, was the mastermind behind those videos last year in which he and a female friend dressed like a pimp and prostitute and sought business advice from ACORN. Last month O’Keefe and Basel made front-page news across the country when they and two others were arrested attempting to access the phone lines of Senator Mary Landrieu (D – Louisiana).
