Saint Louis Zoo Elephant Learns that Herpes is Forever
Thu., Dec. 10 2009 @ 12:32PM
Jade, the nearly three-year-old Asian elephant at the Saint Louis Zoo, recently had another herpes flare up.
The elephant was first diagnosed in February with the disease and underwent a blood transfusion. Then, last month, Jade had another flare up causing loss of appetite and her head to swell.
The Post-Dispatch reports today that veterinarians remain flummoxed as to how Jade contracted the disease that kills some 20 percent of elephants in captivity.
Here at Daily RFT we believe the guilt lies squarely with the zoo officials who named Jade. Give any child a stripper’s name and she’s going to come down with herpes at some point in her life. That’s just a cruel fact of life.

Black Man Killed At “Skinhead Nazi Strip Club” in East St. Louis. Then it Gets Weird…
Mon., Dec. 7 2009 @ 2:30PM
Of all the places to open a nightclub that advertises “Hot Girls, Cold Beer” and supposedly only allows white people to enter, East St. Louis, Illinois has to be at the bottom of the list of likely locations.
Not only is the city’s population 98 percent African-American, it also prohibits “sexually explicit” businesses from holding liquor licenses.
And yet, according to the family of a Bethalto man who was killed in a bizarre incident this past October, City Nights is just such a club.
…
Perhaps even more intriguing, though, is the debate the City Nights incident has sparked about the mayor’s handling of strip clubs and liquor licenses in East Boogie.

Hurst recalled testing the guns, playing on the Arizona’s baseball team, being just another sailor.
“I don’t have any great sea stories to tell, but I guess it did for me what needed to be done to me,” he said from Jacksonville, Fla. “I was just an old farm boy — hell, I had absolutely zero sophistication. All I knew was work.”
“I enjoyed it,” Stratton said from Colorado Springs, Colo. “After all was said and done … after I got squared away and made a few friends aboard, and the routine was settled down, everything was kind of kosher.”
Marshall Trimble, Arizona’s official historian, said scandal shattered the Arizona’s routine in 1924, when news broke that a prostitute named Madeline Blair had stowed away on the ship during a cruise, paying the ship’s cook for meals and doing business with sailors.

Even with the designation, the exact beginnings of The Book House are nebulous at best, and it has worn many hats in its storied history.
Donia Hunter, chairman of the commission, said the exact beginnings are not known, although it is thought to have been built in 1863.
“We know for a fact that this building was here in 1890,” Barron said. “But there were existing structures predating 1863.”
While Hunter has put together a history of the house, rumors of its past abound.
“I heard that it might have been a brothel at one point,” Barron said. “Two guys owned it. It could have been an inn. A Dr. Thomas lived here in the 20s. He was the grandfather of Betty Stahl and someone told me he had a morgue in the front room, along with his office.”

The woman testified at trial that Kirk was speeding and weaving back and forth. A police officer testified there was no evidence of erratic driving on the part of Kirk.
In another strange twist to the tale, Kirk was mugged as he lay injured on Ridge Street. Kolker said two men came up to Kirk and robbed him shortly after the collision, but that information did not get before the jury.
“Immediately after the accident, Kirk was lying on the side of the road, trying to stop the blood flow from his amputation, when he was mugged,” Kolker said. ” The defendant sat in his truck and did not help, honk his horn or call the police. Plaintiff argued at trial that defendant was distracted by prostitutes at the time of the accident.”
