CASEYVILLE, Ill. – Authorities in St. Clair County have filed child endangerment charges against a Columbia, Mo., couple who allegedly fell asleep in a Caseyville motel room after leaving an infant and toddler in a running van outside.
Police say they first found 29-year-old Benjamin Atkins and 28-year-old Jaymie Bowling asleep in their van Friday morning in a McDonald’s parking lot. A 7-month-old boy and another boy, almost 2, were in the back seat.
Police told the couple to return to a motel where they were staying while Bowling worked at a Caseyville strip club.
Police later got a call about two unattended children in a van.
The parents were found in their motel room. Officers say Atkins appeared confused and said he thought the children were in the room with them.

Police: Dad leaves boy and goes into strip club
INDIANAPOLIS (AP) – A man was arrested after police said he left his 5-year-old son in a tractor-trailer while he ducked into an Indianapolis strip club to drink. The 39-year-old was arrested at 1:15 a.m. Tuesday on child neglect and public intoxication charges after calling police to report his truck stolen and his child missing. Police said the man was too drunk to remember where he had parked. They found the boy inside watching cartoons on a television inside the cab. The keys were in the ignition, and the doors were unlocked.

The increase of syphilis cases among gay communities is worrisome, since the chancre could increase the possibility of HIV transmission.
The big public health question here is: Would gay marriage cut down the amount of dangerous sex in the male gay community? Would same sex marriage encourage monogamy in the more conservative parts of the gay community, or would it just mean a tax break and a piece of paper without a change in behavior?
But another troubling fact:
* Syphilis rates among women increased 36 percent from 2007 to 2008.
So it’s not just gay men who don’t tell their partner they have an STD.
Some of this comes from contact with prostitutes, but a lot of it seems to be spread by a few bisexual men who are promiscuous with women.

The Beautiful Kind: A wise professor once told me, “It’s better to regret something you have done than something you haven’t done.” I’ve taken his words to heart.
