ST. LOUIS (AP) — A former St. Louis-area police officer has admitted to arranging meetings with female escorts over the Internet, then when they showed up, telling them they were under arrest before sexually assaulting and robbing them.
Leon Pullen, a former Uplands Park police officer from Foley, pleaded guilty Wednesday to nine counts in U.S. District Court in St. Louis, including depriving someone of their civil rights, witness tampering, lying to the FBI and conspiracy. Other charges were dropped.
“He has accepted his responsibility by entering his plea,” Pullen’s attorney, Grant Shostak, said.
Pullen, 32, could face up to life in prison when he is sentenced Oct. 15, although he is expected to receive an 181/2- to 25-year term as part of his plea deal.

D.S., the former wife of a police officer, said she called St. Louis police internal affairs and was referred to the FBI. Within hours, agents were listening in as she called Pullen and confronted him about the sexual assault. She said he had written down his number for her, and she remembered his name from embroidery on his shirt.
Agents would later win the cooperation of Biancardi and collect Pullen’s DNA.
In court, Pullen also admitted robbing and sexually assaulting women on three other occasions from February to June of 2009. He acknowledged that he lied to the FBI and told Biancardi to lie, saying that no one would believe the women because they worked as escorts.
Pullen was arrested by the FBI in September 2009 as he was about to start his shift. Officials said he had ads printed out for 11 other female escorts.

City cancels summer work program at Hazelwood Y
Thursday, July 29, 2010
By Joe Smydo, Pittsburgh Post-Gazette
The city of Pittsburgh said it canceled a summer employment program at the Hazelwood YMCA and reassigned 19 youth workers after the Y failed to provide clearances for program staffers.
One of the staffers, Lutual Love Sr., has a record for drug possession.
In an interview, Mr. Love, long a controversial community activist, also acknowledged pleading guilty in the 1960s to involuntary manslaughter, a charge that he said arose out of a car accident. He also was charged in 1975 with statutory rape, corruption of minors and promoting prostitution — charges that ultimately were dismissed and that he said were unfounded.
City personnel director Judy Hill Finegan said the 19 youths were reassigned to the Student Conservation Association, another of the 15 or so organizations that supervise youths involved in the summer work program.

ST. LOUIS, MO (KTVI-FOX2now.com) – A former police officer admits he robbed and sexually assaulted women while on patrol. One of the victims talked to Fox Files investigator Chris Hayes. Leon Pullen pleaded guilty to his scheme in robbing and sexually assaulting escorts, including the woman we talked to, who wants to protect her identity.
The anonymous escort told us, “I took a big sigh of relief after he said, I did it. I did all those things. I just kind of relaxed. It was like closure.”
She was in town for last year’s All Star Game. She was “working” on the side. She advertised $400 – $500 an hour escort services in “Backpages.” That’s where former officer Pullen found her and the FBI said Pullen had help in the conspiracy to rob and assault her at the police station.

ST. LOUIS
(St. Louis Public Radio)
A former police officer in Uplands Park, a North County suburb with 460 residents, has pleaded guilty to civil rights violations for sexually assaulting and stealing money from several women.
Leon Pullen admitted Wednesday that at least four times between February and July 2009, he responded to online ads from women offering prostitution services and then sexually assaulted them, including once while he was on duty and in full uniform. That victim was assaulted at the Uplands Park police station. Another victim told the FBI she was afraid to report her assault to authorities because Pullen was a police officer.
When Pullen, a 32-year-old native of Foley, Mo., a small city north of St. Louis, was arrested in September 2009, he denied taking money from his victims and engaging in sexual activity while on duty. He pleaded guilty on Wednesday to nine federal counts, some of which carry a maximum sentence of life in prison.

Roxana by Daniel Defoe
Defoe’s “memoir” of an invented 17th-century courtesan has acquired a title that is but one of his anti-heroine’s pseudonyms. “The Fortunate Mistress” (as the novel was originally called) keeps her true name secret, masquerading as a “woman of quality” in order to beguile rich men.
The Aspern Papers by Henry James
The namelessness of James’s narrator seems fitting in a tale of genteel deceit. He tells us of his obsession with a dead poet called Jeffrey Aspern, whose papers may be in the possession of a former lover, now living in Venice. He can only gain these manuscripts by marrying her dowdy niece. What to do?
“The Yellow Wallpaper” by Charlotte Perkins Gilman
A doctor has confined his wife to her bedroom, decreeing that she is suffering from some nervous affliction. She keeps a secret journal, whose entries constitute this short story. Her fevered imagination is fed by patterns in the wallpaper. Her namelessness has made her, for some, a representative of 19th-century womanhood.

Indeed, given the current shortage of healthy organs, the creation of a market for them might seem not only inevitable but eminently sensible. And there is also, of course, the moral argument for allowing such sales: My kidneys are mine (if not, then whose are they?), and the fact that something is mine gives me certain rights over it, including, ordinarily, the right to sell it to someone else at a price that we both agree on. This argument forms the core of the standard libertarian explanation of why we should have free markets in organs, in surrogate motherhood, in prostitution and, indeed, in pretty much everything.
